Abstract

Omumu is an Alla Prima of Echo action painting performance carried out at Igbo land-Igweocha (Port Harcourt Club). The action painter in his usual spontaneous techniques splashes bright contrasting hues in their chroma against a very dark background. Exploring some theatrical elements such as solo renditions, spoken words etc., the presence of light (Jesu) towards the eradication of darkness (Ekwensu) in Igbo land was expressed. This is metaphorically expressed in Igbo Biblical Theology with significance to Ncheta omumu Jesu nnwa ka nnwa (Jesus the greatest child). By his painting gestures, the action painter calls for keeping hope alive in Igbo land because Emmanuel is with the Igbos.
